Generic documentary feature with lots of nudity, Skin traces the presence of nudity in film from the earliest days of movies to the current day. The most interesting elements are the segments on the history of the invention of the movie camera. The facts that Thomas Edison used his notoriety in the United States to establish and steal credit for invention of the movie from the true inventors is interesting. Edison used a licensing fee imposed on any one using a movie to fatten his bank account.
The examples of nudity movies before the Motion Picture Code is another interesting element. Lead me to wonder what if that path had been allowed to continue? Maybe the presence of nudity in movies and society would not have become so salacious.
There is very little naturist interest in the film, as vintage naturist movies are only given a passing mention. The naturist movies are described as uninteresting and artistically irrelevant. Nudist camp genre and nudie cutie films are mentioned but nothing of the crop of modern naturist films like Act Naturally. However, credit is given to naturist films for initiating the Tradition from the era of the Motion Picture Production Code to the current rating system we exists now. Adult film makers owe naturist film makers a debt of gratitude.
Those who love to see skin for the say of see skin will not go wanting. The movie is true to its name and puts lots of it on the screen. As a naturist used to seeing clothes free bodies in non-sexual social setting I found myself losing interest early in the film. There were times I had to force myself focus at times as the commentary by many well known and some not so recognizable actors, directors, and movie types was uninspiring. It wasn’t worthy of the $4.99 rental from Amazon Prime Video. Naturists who work to normalize nudity might do well to pay attention to the way the movie industry handles nudity in the MeToo era.
As a naturist I don’t feel I have any “skin” in this movies game. <grin> If you watch tell us that you think.
