The 1934 film features, Tarzan and Jane swimming underwater in a romantic choreographed scene similar to the scene in the Blue Lagoon starring a young Brooke Shields. Tarzan played by Johnny Weissmuller wears his loincloth while Jane played by Maureen O’Sullivan is completely naked. In actuality the scene was shot using a body double as Ms O’Sullivan was reportedly afraid of putting her head underwater.
The scene did not make it past the film censors and was ordered removed from the movie. Three versions of the scene were shot but the topless and nude scenes were never released to theaters and considered lost. A master with the original nude scene was found and restored to the film when he bought the MGM library for Turner broadcasting. Turner Broadcasting and the MGM library now belongs to ATT.
