The Expose Of The #Nudist Racket (1938)

Summary

This is a “road show” from 1938. There is no director credited. For a few years in the late thirties, “nudist colony” movies were quite popular on the “sexploitation” circuit. Notice that the girls featured with bare breasts are quite attractive, more so than average people who might be in the colony. These are probably models and aspiring actresses brought in for the movie only. As one producer of the time put it, “If you are going to make a nudist colony movie, bring your own nudists” Notice the title. Nudism is a “racket.” an indication of the middle class morality which is imposed on all these movies. Also note how they make fun of the fat woman. This is another aspect of these films. Review

This faux documentary news reel from 1938. Has a running time of nine minutes and forty-one seconds.There is no director credited or cast listed. This suggests as some have surmised this short is one of the nudie cutie sexploitation movies that were produced in the early years of nudism to take advantage of new freedoms to depict nudity on film.

Honestly, I had a draft of this review sitting in my to do box for ages. Mostly because I really didn’t know what to make of this uneven often unpalatable short.  Sure, there are depictions of non sexual nudity on film but does that outweigh the blatant misogyny and body shaming. Even if that kind of talk and thinking was common, is that enough of a reason to tolerate to get the information provided?  Doesn’t that reduce its value and naturist interest? In the end it comes down to the film being a cinematic relic from a bygone era. Take it for what it is. I give it 2.8 bare butt in seats. CINEMATIC RELIC OF A BYGONE ERA

1938 FAUX DOCUMENTARY NEWS REEL

This faux news reel documentary short doesn’t stand the test of time. Extensive body shaming overshadows the sharing of accurate information about nudism of that time. Thankfully sine it is only nine minutes long. So it is bearable hear the actual facts about nudism of the day in between the feeble attempts at wittiness at the expense of the one non model body caught on film. In the end it must be taken for what it is a cinematic relic of a bygone era
